Dynamic segments are “smart” lists that automatically add or remove contacts based on the criteria that you provide.
They are easy to set up, and they maintain themselves. That is to say, they use real-time data to create constantly changing groups of contacts that move in and out of the target segment as they meet (or fail to meet) the defined criteria (such as, customer transactions, behavior, interests etc).
The need for dynamic segments is to use data collected from your contacts and send campaigns and automated messages that are specifically tailored to their wants and needs.
For example: The segment ‘all active customers ’ created last week with 20,000 customers can have an increased count of customers today if more customers have transacted with the business during this week. That is to say, the contacts in the segment get updated since the specified date until the current time.
Static lists consist of the contacts that you explicitly add from external files or directly from your CRM system. Static lists do not change once you add data to them. Also, you cannot remove contacts from static lists but you can add to them in course of time.
Static lists are created in two ways:
- Using the contacts that are already in your CRM system.
- By uploading customer data files through the tool.
For example: You can create a list of VIP customers for a specific period of time in the past.
